Anyone in Chicago Preparing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hi,

I'm new to this forum but have been studying the Y2K issue for the past 3 years or so. I'd like to talk to anyone in the greater Chicago area who is doing any y2k prep. Please respond via my e-mail (yes, it's my real address)...thanks!

Hi. I live in a 'burb of Chicago. About 20 miles west. Have been preparing since last November. My husband thinks I'm nuts.

Been trying convince my wife's sister & husband to sell their house (northwest burbs) and her nephew to sell his gold coast condo (Michigan Ave with a view of the lake) and move. Nephew sold and move to Raleigh area of NC 2 weeks ago. Sister won't sell but will be in NC at the roll over.

"The Greater Chicago area..." Hmmmmmmmm

Anyone who actually lives around here knows it called; CHICAGOLAND. As in: "Visit Your Chicagoland and NW Indiana Ford dealer today!"

oh wait! I just went to your home page and you recently immigrated from MPLS, OK now it makes sense.

Oh, also, from your web page: "...the place is made of concrete...totally inflammable,"

Flammable and Inflammable mean the same thing. Go figure. Better to use "Fireproof" (althought a concrete building is not fireproof, Louis Wolfe filled the first floor of one of his with tires and someone set them on fire, and the building burned!)

anyways-

I live in Evanston (just north of Chicago) and yes, I am preparing for 8 or more.

and yes my address is real.

Plonk!

Hey, good research there, finding my site and all. I'll change "inflammable" to "fireproof". I really hate being caught with my nouns down!

Thanks to all the others who have e-mailed and responded so far, I'll be in contact once I have some time at home (I can only use my Hotmail account while at the office).

John,

If you live in Chicago and you are not preparing you are out of your mind.

Get on the Chicago Tribune website and look up the stories regarding the series of failures that Commonwealth Edison went through this summer. If you're willing to believe that every thing is fine after reading these articles than you are one brave guy.

John,

I have also been involved with Y2K for 3 years, and have been preparing since October, 1998. I will be leaving for Florida before the rollover, as all my water, heat and food are there. Good luck to you and everyone who stays in the Chicagoland area, hope to be back soon after the rollover.

Ummm...yes I have been preparing for quite a while actually. But I AM also "out of my mind"...that just does not have much to do with Y2K! I was actually here for the blackouts, by the way. It happens to be one of many reasons why I HAVE been preparing! If they can't handle a bunch of airconditioners, how are they going to handle Y2K?

Hello John,

It seems that prepping is all I've been doing for the past year. My family and I live in God forsaken land known as N.W. Indiana. Our former residence was White Bear Lake, Mn. Can you say "bouwt"? (boat) What do you want to talk about? Long term storage of a *hot dish* or a *cold dish*? Just kidding. :^) Anyway... The bogus sounding E-addy is real.
