Does anyone use instant messenger?

As an experiment I downloaded the yahoo instant messenger. Does anyone out there use this software?

If I understand it correctly, I can send and recieve instant messages while I'm connected to the internet. Apparently, I can create a list of "friends." When I'm on-line and running the software, I'll be able to see if my friends are also on-line. If they are, I can send them notes.

The problem is, I don't have any "friends" yet.

I also added a little graphic to the OREAD home page that is supposed to indicate whether or not I am currently on line. I think (but I'm not sure) that it will allow anyone to send me a message even if they don't have the messenger software loaded. I'm not really sure it works, though (and I'm not sure I loaded the software correctly).

I was interested in experimenting with the messenger software because it seems like it might be a useful way for OKers to talk with each other.

I think the little graphic I added to the main OREAD page does work. It seems to indicate whether or not I am on-line (and it seems to be accurate). I think you can send me a message even when I am off- line. I just won't get the message until the next time I run the Yahoo Messenger softare.
