The Seattle School Board has acted to protect its revenue flow by approving a plan to allow various district fees to be adjusted annually for inflation without holding a general election. Seattle School Superintendent Joseph Olchefske praised the boards action. We are very much within our rights under the law and acting within what the public wants us to do, he said. Other districts are considering similar moves. Legislators are warning cities, towns and school boards not to rush through tax increases in the next two months. It would probably backfire, said Sen. Valoria Loveland, D-Pasco. If they hurry up and put in place fees, youre going to make the electorate mad. Theyre not going to understand why you did it. Gov. Gary Locke on Friday ordered state agencies to honor the spirit of the voters action and to refrain from any fee increases except those already in the works. Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, pleaded for calm. This isnt a crisis. This isnt an emergency, he said.

The City of Pasco city concil is also considering raising taxes before I695 implementation. They don't or won't get the message. The only real answer is to dump them at the next election and replace with someone who has gotten the message.

This was after they just hired a new police officer, while at the same time saying they may have to lay of police & fire.

Ed - lay them all off, but keep repaving parking lots for business and build interpitation centers at parks.

Waaay down south by Portland.....The Vancouver peoples are possibly looking towards a 5% Movie Ticket Tax.....

I laughed when I read this line from a Vancouver City Councilman: "This is a very interesting proposal," councilman Jack Burkman said, "I'd like to see what the public has to say about that."

Yo! Jack! Been living in a cave the last three months???

Obviously Burkman has not heard The Voice Of The Voters...But, he will soon. He will either become more educated as to what his employers want (The Voters) or he will be voted out of office.
