December Drought?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Evidently there is not a significant penalty for not registering your car until next year, at least if you don't drive it in the intervening time and get a ticket. Given that, why would anybody license their vehicle if their tabs expire in December? It would be legal to drive right up until midnight on December 31. Then all that you have to do would be to keep it off the street until January 3 when the licensing offices open up next year. Piece of cake, and you've saved probably hundreds of dollars. The only downside is that the lines at the licensing offices on that morning may be rather spectular! There seems to be a excellent chance that the MVET may bring the State exactly $0.00 in December.

I think the best thing to do for all who don't want to pay license fees in December but still need their car is to purchase a temporary 3 day driving pass. The cost is about $12 and I beleive the limit is 3 purchases in one month per licensed vehicle.

The Federal Government declared a drought over in Franklin County, now the farmers get to split up $3.5 million.

Of course Benton and Franklin Counties are in a defined DESERT area.

Ed - must have been I-695
