Power outage in North Florida?

Does anyone know anything about a power black out in North Florida? A friend has a Nextel phone and he told me tonight that there was a message on his machine that service would be restored "momentarily." When he talked with a service representative, they told him that someone doing some y2k testing had blown up a transformer or something and that the power was out from Orlando to Tallahasee. Can anyone in North Florida confirm that story?

Orlando is in Central Florida.

No problems here or anywhere that I have heard of.

Talked to mom and sister in Amelia Island (far northeastern FL-about 2 -3 hrs. N of Orlando) tonight about 8-10pm EST. No mention of power problems. Brisk winds off the ocean. M

No problems on east coast of northern Florida. In Florida, you get used to temporary outages. Longest one I experienced was three hours at night, bummer, I bored myself!
