Why no agitation for sales tax reform?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

We all pay a HUGE amount of our income on sales tax (at least compared to the average 0.8% under the MVET). So how come none of you anti-taxers is agitating to get rid of THAt tax?

Hmmmmmmm?

Didja call the cops?

Like it would have done any good - the Seattle PD probably would have told you to "hire a lawyer, there's nothing we can do" as they go out and bust people for doing 2MPH over the limit on Aurora Ave N.

Gotta raise that money somehow, whether it be speed traps or inaccurate parking meters.

Actually, sales tax is next. But it's not a high priority because it can be legally avoided. 'nuff said.

Guess which state is the 50th highest taxed in the nation? NO sales tax, NO income tax, and their motto is "Live free or die!"

New Hampshire??? Hmmmm, it is New Hampshire, isn't it? *rustle*rustle* aww, I'm too tired to look it up. Izzat true, though, no sales or income tax? Hmmm. OH well.

Yes, New Hampshire is right up there... but they all pay HUGE property taxes, which has led to massive inequalities in educational funding and, consequently, a Supreme Court ruling that will require them to equalize funding across rich and poor districts.

(I'm not making this up... My mom lived in N.H. until quite recently.)

But I'm not sure about that #50 ranking. After all, Alaska actually has a *negative* income tax.
