Washington State Tax Question ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

What is the itemized 1998 and estimated 1999 tax dollars the state of Washington collected/will collect for, (property, sales, motor vehicle excise, etc.) ?

Therefore, motor vehicle excise tax is what percent of the total ? Thank You

I have the same question. It seems that it must be 30% of the total funds available as everything I've heard on TV says that services will be cut by 30%. Seems a little hard to believe.

A co-worker just told me the state tax budget is 10 Billion. The motor vehical excise tax revenue is 750 Million. So, motor vehical excise tax represents 7.5% of the budget.

Is this accurate ?

Not accurate. Check the State of Washington site, Office of Management and Budget. They have the details. The state has, I think, three budgets; and they are for two years each. The operating budget is about 37 Billion for 2 years if you take out the reauthorization from the prior budget, and you can get into all kinds of arguements about what to count as actual discretionary spending.

In response to the E-mail questions, yoy can start looking at the state budget here:

http://www.ofm.wa.gov/budget_toc.html

Sorry, the name of the agency is the Office of Financial Management, not Office of Management and Budget. OFM is state, and I beleive OMB is federal.

This site has some I-695 information being developed.
