Flashing LED Brake Light

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MMC2 : One Thread

I thought about this after I saw a really neat car accident (although not very nice for the driver). As usual, when you step on the brake, your brake lights come on. So how about a pulsating L.E.D brake lamp which flashes faster to a solid red, dependent on pedal pressure. You would need to use L.E.D. lamps as incandescent lamps wouldn't be able to keep up with the intervals.

As a side note, the rear tail lamps in an S-Class are L.E.D's

I've never seen anything remotely close to this for cars, however I did see something similiar in Europe.

Not sure that blinking lights would easily pass DOT approval.

However, LED lights are a good idea. They are built in redundancy (even if a couple burn out--no big deal), they can be brighter, more reliable, use less power, and turn on faster....shaving a feel milliseconds off the reaction time required to keep from running into the guy in front of you.

Anyone selling retro-fits for even just the 3rd light?
