How many of the politicians STILL won't get it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

While some people are deriding the Governor's apparent roll-over on the excise-tax re-instatement issue, the Governor is a good enough politician that he understands what continuing to resist on this issue would do. Officials with lesser acumen (Ron Sims) whose initial PUBLIC PRONOUNCEMENTS were that they'd make the voters pay for approving I-695, miss the point. Locke is HOPING that after this brief fling, populism will die out, and with it the "decrease big government" movement. He wants to salvage what he can (a lifting of the I-601 limit so the bail-out doesn't decrease future year caps, if possible), but even more important than that, he wants the electorate to cool off. But those with less understanding are even now raising tax rates to beat the Jan 1 deadline. This is a poke in the eye to the voters. If these tax and fee increases are necessary, the elected officials should have the confidence in themselves to convince the voters of the fact. If the increases AREN't necessary, they shouldn't be done. By doing it this way, they are demonstrating the arrogant "We know what's best and you guys are stupid" attitude that triggered the tax revolt in the first place. They risk winning a battle at the expense of keeping a war going that they can only lose. The Gov sees that, even if they don't.

Of course the governor knows whats good for him!! Not for the state. He spend 15+ years in the legislature raising taxes and grooming his career. Can anyone name anything that he did for the people of this state? As a governor he is a zero to the left, and other than grooming his career, and sticking to the taxpayers while entertaining his friends, can anyone name anything that he has done for the state.? As far as Simms he has never been qualified for the job anyway, and on top it he is arrogant. It's time to get them out of office. REMEMBER 2000!!
