Nikon LS2000 vs Polaroid SprintScan 4000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I would like info on comparisons of the results and capabilities of the Nikon LS 2000 vs Polaroid SprintScan 4000? I am in the final stages of equipping my digital darkroom and am about to buy a scanner. All my scans will be of 35mm transparencies (usually Velvia) . Virtually all of my printed images will be 11"X14" or 11"X17". I would like to know if the higher resolution of the SprintScan 4000 is a good trade off for the higher DMA 3.6 vs 3.4 for the LS2000. Does anyone know when Nikon is likely to release an model upgrade beyond the LS 2000?

I am also trying to decide between the 2 scanners. Microtek has a 4000 dpi scanner the same as the Polaroid with differnt software, which should be in the stores any day, just to add to the confusion. What has been the experience of owners of Nikon, Polaroid and Microtek scanners in terms of service, support and software.
