Tabs due in December 1999

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

My tabs are due in December - can I pay a pro-rated amount for 1 month and then pay $30.00 for next year - or am I stuck with the whole $600.00 bill??? I know they discussed this on King5 news this morning - but I needed to leave before the segment aired. Thanks for your help Diane

You are stuck if you pay in December for the entire 600$, unless they change thier minds (which I doubt). But you could park your car for a month and take the bus or (risky as it is) run around for a month without them and hope a police car doesn't get behind you.

If your tabs are due in December, they're due at the end of Dec, the 31st. So you only need to wait till January 3rd and walk in and get the $30 tabs.

Even if you do get caught in those last three days with expired tabs the fine is only $75 so you'd still be saving money to wait.

I would wait for January. 3 days is no big deal....

On another note... The date your tabs expire is not the last day of the month, but the date listed on your renewal notice. My tabs expire on Jan 18th, not the 31st. If you don't believe me, just ask the DOL. I got burned on this a few years back and recieved a written warning

Tabs expire at the end of the calendar month, not in the middle. If anyone needs to get around on expired tabs for a few days, simply purchase a 3-day "trip permit" from your local licensing agent. The other alternative is to park the car in the driveway and use another car until that "December" vehicle has new tabs. Unfortunately, the State will not allow the pro-rated amount for one month, so that option is not available (good try, thoug

Your tabs are due the date that is on your registration, my Honda Civic tabs expire on Dec 1st, it would be illegal for me to drive my Honda after that date if I don't renewal, so I decided to use my other vehicle, I thought initially that my tabs would be good until the end of Dec. but found out that is not true, the state will probably encourage its law enforcement agencies to stop anyone with vehicles whose tabs are due in the month of Dec. Who knows what these "greedy" politicians are up to now.
