Isn't the media supposed to be impartial?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

While reading news stories on I-695 I have seen a disturbing trend. Major news agencies are behaving more like advertising agencies. Reporters covering I695 are behaving more like editorialists or lobbyists than journalists.

It is a sad time for journalism and American culture in general. A profession built on impartial objective truth has fallen. Truly something of importance has been lost.

I hope this initiative passes because I can see that the people need to view and control things with their own eyes.

Brian: I am surprised that you expect the media to be unbiased. It has been most apparent for years, even to the most casual of observers that the major and local media is nothing more than an extension of the liberal Democratic Party. If you expect any different you will be in for lots of frustration. Just boycott the mainstream media . Try listening to Rush. Dan Abbott Spokane WA.

The media is as unbiased as politicians are honest and tell the voters the truth every time they speak.

Nuff said.

Dan,

Rush as source of news? He is hardly an unbiased journalist. Rush is an entertainer, whos talent is political opinions/editorials. People should take him for what he is, a radio talk show host.

Thank you for your concern but your guidance is as missplaced in the media as well.

Of course the media & newspapers are biased. I work for a major newspaper in Washington, and all they print is crap opposed to I- 695. There is never anything good printed about this measure in our paper.

rush is a political george carlin!!!!

Rush Limbaugh is not a journalist. He's a political editorialist/entertainer. Besides, even if Rush was a journalist, he's ONE GUY! That doesn't even get close to 'equal time'.

I noticed the same thing. I saw a program on King 5 last weekend about the pros and cons of I 695 and the asian guy, whatever his name is (the one with glasses) was the reporter for the program and they were showing interviews with the opponents of I 695 and not presenting all the great arguments FOR I 695. I was mad alright. Now that it's passed, the media is looking more impartial toward it. What hypocrites.

Oh and Rush Limbaugh is NOT unbiased at all. In fact, he doesn't even discuss or report anything useful. All he does on his program is bash Clinton. Nothing else.

Rush is not a journalist and frankly, he's not even an entertainer. His sole purpose in life is to make fun of Democrats, particularly Bill & Hillary, and to continually remind us how good (?) we had things under his supreme highness, Ronald Reagan. At least real entertainers show some development and growth during the course of their careers.

As far as the journalists are concerned, there is no doubt their views were strongly against I695. However, remember that the poeple of Washington basically ignored them when it came time to vote. The message from the people to the media is: STICK TO THE FACTS AND LEAVE THE EDITORIALIZING AND TO THE "OPINION" SECTION.

Local TV news sources are a joke. Fox News (on cable) and KVI radio are about the only places to get useful information.

Rush rules.

God I love the stuff on this page. I've been telling people for years the media is biased and they just dont get it. Anyone can see it but you need character to admit it and fight it. Screw the media and its liberal conditioning of the masses. Give the media and democrats anther 20 years and the only thing that will be legal in the US is; abortions, drugs and alternative life styles

I feel I have to say something here. I started this post, but have been disturbed with some of the replies.

Many self proclaimed republicans tout how the tv news is "liberal" or "democrat Self proclaimed Democrats complain how newspapers are "conservative" or "republican". Wake up the whole media has broken down and has taken sides.

My original complaint was not for the Democrats or Republicans. My complaint is that impartial, , non-manipulated information is becoming harder and harder to find. I am not looking for media that supports my viewpoints, I am looking for media with little or no viewpoint. Just the facts please.

Each Republican and Democrat wake up, you are as brainwashed as you claim your opposite party counterpart is.

I am neither Republican nor Democrat, and simply cast my vote for the best candidate available. Sometimes that candidate does not even belong to the 2 major parties. I can think for myself and read the issues for myself. I do not need others to put words in my mouth. Each time someones mouth opens and Rush Limbaughs or Bernie Wards last show pops out I know realize how brainwashed both the right and left are.

People who cast a vote with a party only so they wont throw a "losing vote" are the real losers. Dont compromise your values to be on a winning team, you will lose in the end. Wake up people, you have a mind and a vote, use them both. Trust me neither the Democrats or Republicans are anyones friends after they have your vote and campaign dollars.

Shut out those who tell you how you should think. Think for yourself, you may be surprised at the good ideas you can come up with.

When the "MEDIA"quit giving us the news and began to give us their disguised opinion of the events they ceased being a credible source of information.Until such time as they can REPORT the news instead of slant the news our only option is to take it for what it is,"one biased reporters'opinion.
