Windows 98SE - Adaptec?????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

In the last couple of days I have updated my system to 98SE so as to run the ADS Pyro capture card for my NLE operations.

I had hoped that Adaptec 3.5 would run up OK and put the dat files in the correct folder but alas "No"

Are you guys that are using adaptec successfully, using the wizard or doing it from the normal program?

Hi Ross

Some comments here, maybe of help:

A) Use Adaptec Video Creator and follow the wizard.

B) This s/w permits 2 types of VCD, that is:

Type 1) 'Simple Video Sequence':- no matter how many clips or chapters, only one track is made, and all files are put in the 'Segment' folder.

Type 2) 'One Level Menu Structure':- number of tracks made will be equal to number of clips plus one, and all files are put in the 'Mpegav' folder.

C) Let's assume you want your clips to be in the 'Mpegav' folder, you do not have a menu page and you have 5 clips or chapters (can be up to 99 clips but maximum of 74 minutes) to make a VCD. In this situation you will follow the wizard by:-

1) Choose the 'One Level Menu Structure' option, even though you do not have a menu page.

2) Next, add all your 5 clip files, one at a time.

3) In 'START_SEQUENCE', add all your 5 clip files.

4) Next in 'Number of Menu Choices', choose 5 choices.

5) Add all your 5 clip files for each one of the 5 PLAY_SEQUENCEs.

6) After ensuring that all your 5 clip files are added to every each one of the 5 PLAY_SEQUENCEs, you can now create and burn your CD-R.

D) Kevin posted a step by step procedure on using 'Adaptec Video Creator' in answer to a question raised by MrVCD dated August 03, 1999. This can be found on:-

'Older Messages (by category)' 'Making your own VCDs - chapters and menus' Titled 'Can you create chapter indexes with EZ CD Creator?'

I have succeeded in making a personalised Karaoke VCD consisting of 17 of my most favorites songs, simply by following his procedures. A much belated 'Thank you' to Kevin here.

Good luck Ross.

Thanks Tomo

The detailed instructions are appreciated - trouble is, that as of last night, after 2 burns the previous night (one using the wizard) to the wrong folder, adaptec tonight will not allow me to actually add files at all.

This time a message appears "you have not got a mpeg player loaded", use "Active movie". Gezzzzzzzz I have six players loaded including active movie and that program plays all of my archive mpeg1 files as do all of the others. Wonder what gives!

Any one know how to make that program see the loaded "active movie" (32 bit) or "Windows media player 6.4 + LSX plug" or Cyberlinks "PWPowerPlayer" or Cyberlinks "VCD PowerPlayer" or "Mediametics mpeg player" OR .......

Think I will buy Nero and get my sanity back - well maybe!
