Did you know our state is paying to sponsor the WTO?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

I just learned that Washington State has become a "Emerald" level corporate sponsor of the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle, which involves a minimum contribution of $250,000. Wow! Quarter of a million dollars spent to schmooze with international tax takers!

This is the kind of spending that competes with funding public health, law and justice, aid to economically disadvantaged counties, etc.

Is there any doubt that spending can be re-prioritized?

And WTO, I'm sure, spends that money to keep US enslaved somehow. Stop the non-sense and vote YES!

Here's where an I-695 opponent agrees with y'all: the WTO and all the multinational corporations which get so much of their moolah straight off the public teat need to go cold turkey. It's absolutely disgusting that these people are being given the people's money in order to empower them to further take away the people's power by knocking down laws which we the people have fought hard for with our activism and ballot power to put into place. Anyone in local and national government who has supported this anti-people process needs to reminded of it in November 2000 (as well as tomorrow aka Nov 2 '99).

But let's not lose sight of how taxation can still be a good thing -- but it has got to serve the PEOPLE and ONLY the people -- not the multinational "free"-market fat cats.

Just a thought, hopefully related to how pro's & anti's can hopefully agree: the people's money has got to serve the people, whether directly or indirectly.

Here's to the best for the PEOPLE (not the CEO's & TNC'S) of Washington State, however the vote turns out.

Jeff

I finally agree with you.

Ed,

So why the threat of violence in the ***WEBMASTER*** thread (attention Webmaster) now that you've "won" and I've "lost" (and haven't been in this forum since Nov 1)?

I'm going to say this seriously this time Ed:

You sound like a serious obsessive personality type and probably need professional help.

I-695 won; you've "won", I've "lost", it's over, OK?

Ed, I'm going to the third floor of the Allen Library now to study the chapter on syntax.

Chill out, okay?

Chez

you still don't get it.

I don't want welfare for big business, but only for us common people, and only if it is for the short term to cover emergency situations.

That is what it was originally designed for.

Also if the peoples money did serve the people and not the politicians, I don't think we would have needed I-695.
