If I-695passes, will $30 be the cost of tabs due in1999?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Just wondering if this initiative does pass, if my car tabs which are due in November this year (1999) = $720 could be reduced if I waited until Jan. 2000 and only pay $30?

To stay "legal", you either have to purchase the tabs now at full price, or don't drive the car until you get the tabs renewed in January @ $30. The cost of a ticket for driving with expired tabs is steep and gets costlier the longer past the expiration date you are when you get caught. If you can do without that car until Jan.1st, save yourself $690... but don't drive the expired tabs car to the licensing office on that day. I'm betting the police will be out in force looking for people who waited, only to get caught driving to the licensing agent!

"If you can do without that car until Jan.1st, save yourself $690..."

Hmmm...I think Mr. guy is on to something here. Even without 695, I'll probably save near this amount ($690 or so) between now and Jan 1st. How is this possible? Simple: I ride the bus. When you add up the lost time in traffic (time=money), gas, insurance, and maintanence , it just makes more sense. Sure, I use the car for quick, emergency or long trips, but comparatively, these trips are few and far between.

Of course, as maddjak says, it is about freedom...and you all still have the freedom to be a dumbass and get stuck in traffic! (while the oil companies laugh all the way to the bank)

But isn't the automobile the most efficient mode of transportation? Nope; on the pure basis of energy input vs. work achieved, that prize still goes to the bicycle.

You might think a "time consuming" bicycle commute makes no sense in today's have-to-be-there-yesterday society, but think about it this way:

Which makes more sense? Riding a bicycle 5 miles to work (or a park n ride like I do) OR Driving 5 miles to work and using the miniscual time you save to go to the gym and ride the stationary bike.

Talk about a worthless accomplishment!

I heard this same thing on the radio a few weeks ago, but the disk jockeys never asked the license people what the fine is for paying your tabs late. What is the fine for delaying on paying late???? My tabs are due in June so I could care less right now, but I know there are people out there who are due in December and would just LOVE to have that money for Christmas!!! Wow! I-695 passing and a couple of hundred bucks at the beginning of the new year!! Ain't this going to be great!!! Oh, db and Patrick... don't need to hear it because YOU too will share in this joy even if you say that the gloom that follows will end it. Yeah, they say the same thing about snow. It's going to snow big tonight and tomorrow and I'm project a landslide of it in favor of I-695!!!

The ticket is around $70 for the first one and about $150 for the second one. If you leave it parked it's free.

If anyone knows the exact amount, please enlighten us.

This is the first time I'm glad my tabs are due in Dec. I sent the money to the I 695 campaign instead of gov't. I'll have to "legally" wait to drive my car till Jan. 3 when I can get the tabs-unless of course, some @#%$###%*&^ holds all this up in court.

no to all your questions (AND NO ON 695)

That post was really directed @ Paula; She's got a bit of a problem with an evil Chinese commie insurgence in the Gov's mansion.

I let her know about the Locke's family grocery store on Queen Anne, and about Weissbach's true ancestory (i.e. the error of her ways), but I think she's more concerned about "Yellow Skin" than she is about "Red Intentions
