QV2000UX vs C2000Z

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Please help me here.

I would like to get a nice digicam but not sure which one. My target is to get one before the dawn of a new millenium. Anyway, I have narrow my search down to two (namely the Casio 2000UX and the Oly 2000Z).

Both seems to share the same specs. I know that the UX won't support external flash nor lens adaptor but those are the least of my problem. My priority would be as follow and I'm curious how they match up head to head:-

1. Image Quality (Daylight/Potrait)

2. Image Quality (Daylight/image in motion)

3. Shutter cycle times / overall responsiveness

4. creativity option when comes to full manual setting

5. power consumption

6. value-added when comes to additonal accessories (what's provided in the box). This is important to me cause I don't want to end up with a camera and yet I have to spent another 50% (of the camera's cost)in order to be "practical".

7. ergonomics / ease of use. I may miss a sweet moment if I fumble too much.

I don't own either one but the comparative images from DCRP show them to be comparable. You might want to give some thought to the fact that the Casio uses CF type II cards for storage while the 2000Z is limited to the smaller (32 M) Smart media. The CF II cards are already up to 128 Megs and the slot can accomodate a Microdrive with up to 340 Megs. It looks like Olympus regrets going with SM cards, since their newest and best (2500) has slots for both.
