Photodeluxe vs. Photoshop LE

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I've been using Adobe Photodeluxe for awhile with my digital camera, scanner and printer. It's just a hobby but is it worth the jump up to LE? I don't want to spend the $ for full photoshop as I don't think I'd need it. would like comments from people who have used both.. Thanks

Photodeluxe is a more basic package that does many of the same things that LE does. However you do get more ability to manipulate your photos in LE. There are more tools available for more fine tuning of your prints. However, it does take a little while longer to learn. If you decide to move up to the full photoshop version, there is a discount also. ( For when you become an expert). I mainly use LE, but no one program can provide all that you need. I also use MGI photosuite to fill in some gaps ( this has photo stitching capabilities).

PhotoDeluxe is the 'home consumer' version of PhotoShop. PhotoShop is for the graphic professional who wants TOTAL control of their graphic creations and must prepare a graphic for a professional publisher. PhotoDeluxe has all the fun templates. PhotoShop frustrates many people with "what do I do now?" when one must absolutely take a course to learn it and learn it well. PhotoDeluxe takes the 'hand hold' approach through many steps of a graphic project and includes many clickable preview icons. However, everything is in the menu system and use of the menu system is much faster, once learned. Honestly, the heart of PhotoDeluxe IS PhotoShop (albeit v2.5 or so). My web site, "Life is a Zoo!" contains seven way cool step-by-step graphic tutorials based on PhotoDeluxe 2.0 that you won't find in any book, in addition to a section on graphic fundamentals and PhotoDeluxe essentials one needs to know. Once one understands the limitations of PhotoDeluxe, one can do nearly everything PhotoShop can do, just differently! Personally, I'm hoping for much improvements with PhotoDeluxe v4.0 just released this November 99. So, check out my graphic tutorials...I think you'll be amazed at what PhotoDeluxe is really capable of, and let me know what you think. Best regards, Walt "Life is a Zoo!" HTTP://WWW.LNI.NET/~THEZOO
