REGULAR posters - please take note

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It appears we are being invaded by an onslaught of trolls recently. One in particular is becoming very annoying to a lot of regulars and has been using a similar e-mail to mine which is becoming confusing. Since he refuses to change, I am going to change my name to "Hawk" (if it is not already being used), since I do not want to be mistaken for this asswipe who is going around causing problems. This is my last post as @, but just for the record... I MADE IT TO THE TOP 20!!

Thanks for your cooperation.

Here is a brush, you might find it easier to stroke your ego with.

-- Not "Hawk" (_@_._._@_._._@@_.__), October 29, 1999.

HAWK,@, whatever....so you made it the top 20! Your friends and family must be so proud.

-- XXX (XXX@XXX.XXX), October 29, 1999.

(.@..@.),

It isn't a matter of ego, your views are too different from mine, and I don't them to be confused. You should show more respect for people who have been on this forum longer than you.

(this a test of my new face, hope it works!)

-- (*V*) Hawk (fly@sky.hi), October 29, 1999.

Hawk,

They don't have respect for anybody. They're here to disrupt the forum and drive people away. It's their job.

How do you know how long I've been here???

You want to just go ahead making assumptions or can I speak? It's been almost from the very birth of this crazy place. How do you like them apples?

One thing is for sure, it's no assumption to think that the only reason why you would post something like this is because your so tickled pink with your "status" as a regular.

A little desperate for acknowledgement from the world are you?

-- (_@_._@_._), October 29, 1999.

gee, well then maybe you would like the rest of us to leave so the 20 of you can be alone?

-- tt (cuddluppy@yahoo.com), October 29, 1999.

I felt the same way until I made it to the list! Sorry, maybe it is childish but please allow me to indulge myself just this once. I made it to the ranks of some of the most Y2K aware people in the world and I think this will soon be recognized as something to be thankful for. Keep working at it guys, knowledge is power.

-- (*V*) Hawk (fly@sky.hi), October 29, 1999.

@ isn't doing 'its' preps. @ is scaaaaaared, and the only solace @ gets is by slagging those who are preparing. @ is gonna be really sorry come January, cause @ is either too stupid or too lazy to acknowledge reality. @ must be on some kind of prescription medication. That would explain @'s state of mind.

Stop it your killing me! "some of the most Y2K aware people in the world" Hahahahahahaha!

Muuuwwwwaaaaaahahahaha!

Most people here couldn't tell a millennium bug from a lightning bug!

-- ROFLMAO! (lol@these.egos), October 29, 1999.

Ok, @ (the original), we will let you indulge. But just this once!

Actually, so many of the contributers here have spent untold time researching, explaining, debating and posting information for all of us. I for one am very grateful.

Now, @ (the original), get back to work!

-- Lillly (homesteader145@yahoo.com), October 29, 1999.

I do not speak of technical awareness, but of the true nature of the Y2K dilemma, of which I am sorry to say, 97% of the world has no clue.

-- (*V*) Hawk (fly@sky.hi), October 29, 1999.

Lilly,

Thank you, your efforts are also most appreciated. I know from that the list is meaningless, nevertheless, I must admit, I gloated when I made it! It is time for Hawk to fly now, for he must literally get back to "work" outside the forum. See you on my next forum flight!

-- (*V*) Hawk (fly@sky.hi), October 29, 1999.

Oh my gawd...now you say you're in the top 3% in the world with your Y2K knowledge.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I can't bear it any more! It's a beautiful day outside. Maybe I'll go roll in the grass instead of

ROFLMAO!

Would the moderators PLEASE delete these damm polly troll posts?

-- Sure M. Worried (SureMWorried@bout.Y2K.coming), October 29, 1999.

Not trying to play devil's advocate, but Mr. __@__._ does appear to have a heart, in re at least the death of Payne Stewart. See the trailing end of the "OT-Blimp Falls from the Sky --Computer Problem - " thread. Ask the Troll what it wants.

-- SH (squirrel@hunter.com), October 29, 1999.

A signature would help this problem. Have an optional signature-text box on the response page, fill it in if you want to. If it's present, the server hashes that plus your email and name, to give a hash value that is printed along with each message. Nobody can masquerade as you unless they can guess your signature text and get the hash algorithm from Phil.

-- bw (home@puget.sound), October 29, 1999.

bw,

Unfortunately, Greenspun has been pretty clear that he's not going to modify his software. The only answer for this is for the sysops to delete troll posts that impersonate others. I don't think that's going to happen. The sysop in charge of the delete key today has gone on record as saying s/he thinks this cr*p has "entertainment value".

-- (RUOK@yesiam.com), October 29, 1999.

You guys are something else. You get your knickers in a bunch when I use a very obscure e-mail address, that most people use frequently, and it happened to accidentaly step on someone's toes.

I didn't impersonate anyone, it was a coincidence. I have seen others today using a@a.a handles, what about them? I am not THE ONLY one who has used a simple, not existant handle. But you guys just don't see it that way.

Surprise, surprise, surprise.

-- Is that unique enough for ya? (_@_._._@_._.__._._.&%T$*^%$t), October 29, 1999.

RUOK,

I went on record as saying that this stuff has value as a way for people to hone their arguments (if they so choose) and as a way for people to check their responses (if they so choose). You chose to ignore this.

Sure, some of it is entertaining, mostly it's not. Rather than complain about the crap, why not either ignore it, or (once again) use it as an opportunity?

-- Sysop #2 (Sysop #2@TB2000.forum), October 29, 1999.

There's an excellent web bbs called "The Ultimate BBS". Has built-in search, keeps track of what's unread since your last vist, and much more. *And*, it lets you enforce ID validation.

I can't see this forum switching to it due to time, and politics, but it would be a nice improvement.

**********************************************************************

The difference between the legitimate members of this forum and the illegitimate posters is simple to explain.

Those who come here in a spirit and attitude of harmony, tranquillity and freedom from disturbance are sharing this forum in the American tradition of freedom of speech. Wherein, no party may utter words which are in violation of the law and yet are free to honestly share thoughts and opinions of interest to those assembled. IN THIS FORUM as in the public at large, Americans must obey rules of conduct which allow the needs of the group, thus assembled, to communicate as the group honestly seeks. Those who would devise or act to disrupt such free and open discussions, should in the American tradition be warned first to desist. AND IF THEY CONTINUE, THEY SHOULD BE EJECTED.

The illegitimate posters have ill intent toward the legitimate members of this forum and as such have differentiated themselves by their own definitions and actions. The ill will that they intend and act upon, as a group is unwarranted and unwelcomed. They are clearly here to destroy and disrupt. THEY SHOULD BE EJECTED.

Freedom of speech is a two edged sword which cuts both ways.

I say lets let it cut them now and be rid of them!

Only cowards hide behind anonymity when they fight. Don't have enough guts to use logic or links to back up their claims.

Must have had real bastards as parents, to need to hurt people so they can feel better. How sad these cowards are.
