Well, all this discussion on unfair taxes has left me with another question... Why do we pay sales tax on used vehicle??? The state has already collected sales tax on the vehicle at it's most expensive time.

thanks

Questions: Why can the government collect sales tax on a used vehicle, even though it's already been taxed once? The answer: Because we let them!!!! But this stops now with I-695!!!

Here's a breakdown of the taxes you pay on your car:

MVET: 2.2% annually Sales tax: currently 8.6% (King Co.) on each vehicle sale Gas Tax: sales tax plus 23 cents (???) Battery Tax: I know there's one in there somewhere Tires: $2/tire environmental fee + sales tax Oil Change: $2 Environmental Fee + 8.6% sales tax Routine Maintenance: Sales tax @ 8.6% Emissions Check: $12.00 every other year Title Change Fee (for when you pay off your loan): $5.75

Face it, the government sucks you dry when it comes to cars. Isn't it funny how they tax the most those items we are required to depend upon to function daily. When was the last time they added some type of surcharge or excise tax to (for example) foul smelling perfume or bottled water? No, tax the things we need the most to generate as much money as possible. It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to include sales tax on the price of a new home next.

About that sales tax and the emissions check. Really good question. I mean the car was originally purchased and then used for resale so either the 'original' purchaser shouldn't have paid sales tax or all the subsequent purchasers shouldn't pay sales tax.

When is the last time you bought something at a garage sale and paid sales tax on it?? (Although I believe California is looking into starting that practice)

Now the emissions test. If you get your emissions checked on the same day at different locations the test will vary IMMENSELY.

Our car flunked. We had it adjusted and checked at the mechanic's. It passed with flying colors. We took it back to the testing station. It flunked WORSE THAN IT DID THE FIRST TIME.

We took it to a different testing station and IT PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS.

I complained to the State. They told me their machines and testers NEVER MAKE A MISTAKE.

He wouldn't even pretend to take my information and promise to investigate.

Yes I-695 and them maybe an initiative to dump the emission testing. It's as rel;iable as the parking meters in Seattle
