Bell Atlantic Mobil Will

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Maybe this question has been asked before, and if so I apologize. But has anyone here been told they will have to work or are on-call for New Years eve/day?

My son works for Bell Atlantic Mobil - East Coast, and has already been told that he HAS to work on New Years day (have to say he is NOT happy about that!). The Bell Atlantic Mobil stores will be open. My guess is they want to be ready to sell their phones/services in the event that AT&T can't deliver. And, that must also mean that they believe their cell phones will work???

Was just wondering if anyone here has been put on alert or knows someone who has, and if so what type of work do you/they do? Thanks in advance for any response to my question.

That title should have read "Bell Atlantic Mobil Will Be Open For Business On New Year's Day"...

Just hit the wrong key or something, and it posted before I finished typing. Story of my life - as you can see from most of my previous posting. :-(

I work for a reatil chain. We will be open on New Year's Day, and therefore most of our employees will be at work. Why? Simple. Because we expect to make a lot of sales that day, and even if we don't our competition is likely to be open and we do't want our customers going to their stores.

Nothing terribly sinsiter or Y2K related about it. Just good old fashioned capitalism at work. Believe me, the folks at Bell Atlantic are as capitalistic as they come.

Bell Atlantic is not a retail store.

I have to work New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I don't mind as much since all of the good Bowl Games aren't on TV on the 1st. I had planned to go 'out of town' for the rollover, until I was told by the bank management staff that I had to work.

"Bell Atlantic is not a retail store."

Bell Atlantic Mobil, the topic under discussion, operates a chain of retail outlets. It's where I bought my phone and signed up for my service. It's where a co-worker of mine dropped her phone off for repair last week. The one in Natick, MA where I do business is in a space in a strip-mall formerly occupied by Egghead Software and sits between MVP Sports and a Noodle-Kidoodle toy store. They have displays and sales people who assist/assault you when you walk in the door. They even have cash registers, all though they are hard to recognize as such.

Sound pretty retail to me.

For another clue, read the following line in the original post.
