FujiMX1700 - Where to buy & What to Get...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm looking to buy my husband a digital camera. I think I have settled on the FujiMX1700 (beat out the Ricoh5000, the Kodak DC265 and the Canon S10) but can't figure out how to find the best price (read that Web illiterate!) or what comes in the box vs. what I need to order extra.

For example, I figure I need to get an extra memory card - should I get 16 or 32 Mb Smart Media? Do I need to buy a recharger for the LIon batteries or is that included? Anything else I MUST have?

So far I have only found the camera on SSD and digitaletc sites, is there an automatic way to compare prices at all online stores?

Thanks for you help. My husband will appreciate it!

The best price I found was Buy.com for $452. The camera can charge the battery, just plug it into the wall. You can buy an optional charger that charges the batteries 5x faster (1 hour) and doesn't tie up the camera. It comes with one 8 meg memory (smartmedia) card, and you can buy extra 8 meg cards from Buy.com for about 16 bucks. The 16 meg cards are a lot more expensive (like 40-something bucks). I bought two 8 meg cards. I also bought an extra battery (again from Buy.com) for $45. Be careful because the MX1700 uses the MX2700 battery, not the MX700. You don't actually NEED anything that doesn't come in the box with the camera, it's pretty much ready to shoot. I recommend a card reader for your PC though (serial cable is SLOW)... I heard that Fuji is having a promotion and is giving card readers away with MX1700s before December, but I didn't get one with mine so I'm currently trying to figure out what that's all about.

Danielle,

Great gift for your husband. I just bought & received my Fuji MX-1700 for $440 from egghead.com. 2nd day delivery was an additional $11.95. Fuji is also offering a free usb reader or floppy disk adapter. You can find the form at the following link; http://www.computers4sure.com/RebateInfo.asp?RebateId=169. The website is www.computers4sure.com.

Technically, you don't need anything else. The camera comes with everything you need. However, I found it usefull to purchase an extra battery (part #NP- 80), & an externat fast battery charger (part #BC-80). Both items are Fuji products I the best price I found was at www.buy.com. I also purchased from the same place a 32mb smartmedia card for $78. The 8mb cards are less expensive, but with the 32mb card you don't have to worry about carrying many extra cards. Let me know if you have any other questions Mike

I just received my MX1700 which I purchased from Egghead.com. They hd the bst deal and it was in stock. I also got the USB Smart Reader (woks great), an additional battery and a 32 Meg Smart media. i have to say that I am extremely satisfied with everything. The MX1700 does everything. I printed my own pictures on photo grade paper and they came out very good. I then sent the same pictures to print.com and had them send me photo prints -- and they were outstanding. It truely does prodcue photo quality prints.
