climb to propose in Yosemite

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

I am going to Yosemite on Nov. 12-14th. I would like to do a climb with my girl friend and at the end I am going to ask her to marry me. We did the Grack, center route which was a real nice climb and we did After six, this climb we had a hard time on, mostly do to route finding, and time duration on the rock (very crowded), oh and the beginning law back was tough. What suggestions do you have. Is it going to be to cold this time of year? Can you think of any really perfect views to propose?

It's going to be pretty cold at night but nice during the day especially if you are in the sun. If you could handle a very long day and 5.7 runout, Snake Dike would be good, since the cables are down, you'd have half-dome to yourself. There is a route on one of the cathedral spires which is 5.6 except for one 5.9 move which can be aided. This is also a great location.

Ha ha...I hope that your girl friend does not read this list or your surprise will be spoiled! My suggestions are to go for it! I almost asked my (now) wife to marry me after we did snake dike, but I chickened out. I redeemed myself a few weeks later by asking her when we were alone on top of Mt. Russell in the high sierra. The specific view won't matter too much. If you are worried about doing it after a tough climb, just go for a nice hike to a vista somewhere.

Good luck.

May I suggest the Royal Arches regular route--5.9 A1 (5.7) The views are spectaculor and the belays are comfy. Dress warm and start early, she'll love ya for it! Cams to 3in. and nuts
