550EX vs 540EZ for a Rebel 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Considering buying a flash of the higher quality. Are there enough functional advantages for a Rebel 2000 to warrant spending $100 more to get the 550EX?

thanks. dew.

In a word - YES. The 540EZ will not provide ETTL flash or FEL (flash exposure lock)

in my opinion, instead of spending about $300, you should do one of the following: 1). Buy a 420EX for $220, and get $80 worth of accessories, or 2). Buy a 380EX for $145, save some $$, trade in Rebel 2000, and get an Elan 7/7E.

The Rebel 2000 is a cool camera, but it doesn't deserve to have a 550EX mounted on or anywhere near it. I know, 'cause I own one. Take my advice, you'll be very satisfied.
