film scanners connected to iMac

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

The new iMac has only USB or Firewire ports but many of the personal film scanners like the Minolta Dual Scan or Olympus ES 10 are SCSI devices. Can they be made to work with USB or Firewire? Is it likely that the next generation of these scanners will be USB (folowing the trend in printers)?

Theare are new USB and Firewire devices soming out all the time. The USB scanners will be popular at the low end, and should be suitable for an iMac. I'm not dissing iMacs, but without absolute control over the monitor's electron guns you aren't going to match colors exactly anyway, so why spend the money on a high-end scanner?

The Apple Macintosh Product Guide will help you find what you're looking for.

Just found a direct site with good information. Try the Scanner page on the USB Stuff web site.
