What are the main significant different between 70-200/2.8L and 70-200/4.0L? In case we use 5.6 or smaller, should it be quality diff. between two lenses, suppose we are using with tripod.

According to Chasseur d'Images the f/2.8L remains slightly superior and seems to be the better choice if you want to use a teleconverter. The tripod mount is just optional for the f/4L so if you plan to use it primarily on a tripod this additional investment would melt down the price difference quite a bit.

i agree with the response thus far. The most significant difference in my opinion is the weight. If you want to travel light and use a monopod, the f4.0 L is the lens (I am just in the throws of deciding which lens I should buy). The f4.0 "L" weighs only 710 grams as opposed to the f2.8 "L", which weighs in at 1310 grams. However, I note you mentioned tripod, hence, weight might not be a big factor for you to consider.........Regards.
