Scanners: Polaroid 4000 dpi vs. Nikon 2700 dpi

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am in the process of buying a film scanner and trying to decide the advantages of Polaroid's new SprintScan 4000 which gives a resolution of 4000 dpi vs. the solid brand name of Nikon which sells the CoolScan 2000 (2700 dpi) for $200 more. I have heard that resolutions over 2700 are a waste for 35mm film as the grain is no tighter then that. Any feedback would be helpful and gratefully recieved.

Joseph, I have the Nikon LS2000, and it scans the grain very well. I don't know that higher rez will add info, or just add grain. Anyway, the LS2000 does an excellent job with any neg or slide I've scanned with it (about 1000).
