Which Leica 35 mm should I get ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Folks,

Which Leica 35 mm R lens should I get ? The 35 mm f1.4 or the 35 mm f2 ? What is the technical advantage of the f1.4 to the f2 other than the ability to take picture in low light ? I am using the lens mainly for candid travel photography. Appreciate any feed back on this. Please no insult on being a snob etc. Thanks.

Get the best lenses you can afford. If a $1000.00 doesn't make any difference go for the f/1.4,if it does go for the f/2. Both lenses should be fine as far as optics. If you are shooting in low light and slow film I would also advise a sturdy tripod.

I have doing the same research for a while. It appears that the f2 lens is a bit optically superior. SO if you think you wont be needing the 1.4 f stop go for the f2. I am getting the f2 and also saving $1300 canadian :).
