Check with your health practitioner. But in last 10-14 days before due date take 4-6 capsules a day to simplify the birthing. - Anyone with jaundice or a very toxic, over-burdened liver should begin with very small amount, or there may be an unpleasant 3healing crisis.2 Note: V,P & K refer to the three Ayurvedic constitutional types, Vata (air/ether), Pitta (fire/water) and Kapha (water/earth.) All herbs, foods, etc. have elemental qualities, so it is good to know your constitutional type so you can balance not imbalance yourself with your food and herb choices. For instance, Vata people (Tend to be thin, chilly, have quick minds, tire quickly.) are likely to feel worse, not better, if they take Echinacea. A good intro. to Ayurveda is Deepak Chopras's book, Perfect Heaslth. Has a self-assessing questionnaire.

The Hawaiians have been using "olena" (turmeric) as an integral part of their healing system for ages.

Whenever diverse cultures discover the same properties and effects in a plant, there is definitely something there worth exploring.

Shivani--How do you use ghee? Do you use it like butter?

-- bardou (bardou@baloney.com), October 26, 1999.

Yes, you can use ghee just like butter. It is made from butter. What is removed is the water content and the cholesterol. So it keeps well, and so do you.

Margo from Hawaii asksed me a few questions about turmeric, so thought I would answer them here so others can benefit as well. Yes, you could grow it in Hawaii or anywhere tropical. It is a root that looks like a small ginger root. Available fresh in Indian grocery stores, imported from India. Try planting that. Can be taken as powder stirred into warm water, but I put it into Vegi-caps. Take 2 or 3 w/ meals. Pitta people may find that is too much. Stomach may object. Many, many external uses. Wonderful on wounds, burns and bruises. I apply a thin layer of ghee or oil to hold the powder, apply a good layer and bandage. Tape around the edges of the bandasge, as turmeric that leaks out will stain clothing. On Thanksgiving a guest was petting one of our cats in a spot that gsets him antsy, and he bit her a good one. I rinsed it and applied a turmeric bandage. No pain, no infection, she reports. A bandage like this will also stop bleeding. And greatly speed up healing. I had a nasty staple rip on a fingertip heal shut overnight. And when my husband ripped a deep gash in his head that was technically long enough to mean stitches, we applied turmeric and it healed up nicely and quickly too. I have also treated tropical fish that had fungus, by putting the fish in a small plastic bowl of turmeric water and floating that in the aquarium (to keep it warm) for 15 minutes. Very amazing results. In India, turmeric is used for traumas of all kinds. If someone is in an auto accident, an initial first aid treatment is to give a tbsp. of turmeric in water or warm milk. Keeps the body from "memorizing trauma," so to speak. Also used for bites of venemous snakes.
