Replacements for EOS 1n

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone can substantiate the current rumours I've heard about an EOS Pro, to replace the 1n? I have a 5 and an older 1000Fn, and I'd like to replace the 1000Fn with whatever is coming next. I'd buy a 3 but for the fact I believe it to be the replacement for the 5 and would rather hang back and see what Canon does. Nevertheless, I'm keen to find out if anyone knows anything.

My main problem with the 3 and 1n is the transport noise, which I've found to be noticably higher than the 5. Then again, I'd like a 100% viewfinder and the more rugged build of the 1n, but with the more advanced focusing and EC of the 3.

Sigh. Maybe I'm hoping for too much.

John: I recently posted a summary of a conversation I recently had with a well-regarded Canon rep. about this issue, and it was soon deleted, which I find unreasonable. I was told that we can expect a successor to the 1n to be unveiled at the up-coming PMA show in Vegas, around the end of February. We can expect it to be updated much like the EOS 3, but with 1n-like features such as 100% viewfinder coverage, viewfinder shutter, high speed & beefy motor drive, and more rugged construction. No comments were offered about whether its metering system would rival the latest Nikon bodies, but I suspect this is in the works. Also, no info was offered about release or expected delivery dates, or price, but I'm making a ballpark guess of about $2500.00 for a non RS version. It was stressed to me by this Canon rep. that Canon will not pre-announce this camera prior to the next PMA, but yet this rep. was certainly willing to confirm my long held suspicions and wishes that an updated 1n was indeed on the near horizon. It will be interesting to see what new lenses Canon might co-introduce with this latest flagship body.
