I am trying to get some information on the types of compensation that companies are giving their IS staff for making them work NewYears Eve/Day

Its varies, but the drones who I know from Wall St. are getting one of the following:

- 3 to 4 times hourly wage (if paid hourly)
- $500 or $1000 bonus depending on the length of rollover
- 1 week off AFTER the rollover is cleaned up
- Free tickets to shows, travel,etc..

ALL of these people told their boss they will be at work.
ALL of these people told me they will not report to work if the rollover looks scary.

Since I am salaried, my place of employment isn't giving me one red cent. How about those crackers? Doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies about being there when I had rather be home sipping a glass of wine.

They say Honk Konk flu will be particularly virulent right after Christmas this year ...

Hey Hamster throw in armed guards and weapons of choice with ammo

and it would sound better.

hamster --

don't know about anywhere else, but company I'm with is giving $1000 for pulling a shift between 6pm 12/31 and 6am 1/1, $500 for being on call, 600 for pulling a shift 6am 1/1 to 12am 1/2, 300 for being on call, extra vacation days and extra holiday pay for exempts, double time and a half for non-exempts with extra vacation and extra holiday pay.

Of course, I forgot to mention that they didn't get enough 'volunteers' even given all that. So they had to 'volunteer' folks. And all the ones that got 'volunteered' have said that they'll be watching the roll-over in Guam, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, etc. to see if there are problems, in which case 'Gee, my car had a Y2K problem'.

It was suggested that I buy a big-screen t.v. with my rollover compensation.

I currently work in retail, and we are a notoriously cheap industy so don't be surprised when these numbers are considerably lower than those posted earlier.

From 6:00 pm on 12/31/99 through 6:00 am on 1/3/00 our staff will have a single representative on-site from each development and support group working 12-hour shifts. In addition, there will be a specific on-call person to back them up as well as managers on-site.

For each 12-hour shift, staff (all salaried) will be compensated $120 and given an additional paid day off that they may take anytime during the year 2000. Any on-call person who gets called in and ends up working more than 6 hours per shift will receive the same compensation. Managers are given no extra pay.

The staffing of the shifts and the on-call lists were done on a volunteer basis, and we filled all spots within a day of asking for volunteers.
