is it true that left handed people use the right side of their brain-the side that is creative and artistic?

I'm left-handed and I hear that all the time. The first time I heard it was great because it explained a lot of things for me. It finally made sense; why I loved to read, write and am acting. I've been told by tons of people that I am and have always been creative. As far as artistic...well, I don't draw very well or do those kind of art things. I use my brain (writing, reading...) more than my hands. And I'm always using my imagination - whether for writing or just plain old day-dreaming! I don't know if it's because I'm left-handed or if it's just a me thing. But I do believe that we use the right side of the brain more or have better access to it or something.
