Will: It sounds like it was an interesting article. But as I read the points the author was making a couple observations jumped out for me. In point 1 a case is made for performing better on the job because of the contacts made during the training. My guess it that it was a combination of having a better understanding of your work because of the training, increasing your ability to meet expectations and having people to call on to help that helped increase job performance. I think point two can be up for discussion as well. I believe there can be value in hallway chats but the system can be abused as well. For this to work you have to know personnel well to judge the effectiveness of this type of interaction. I agree with you Will on point 8. I don't think unlearning is the appropriate word for this example. I think it is more a case of having the approval and courage to speak up with ideas or thoughts that were always there.
