USB Digital Cameras

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

How come the USB digital cameras don't tell in advance of buying that you can't use them if you're using Windows NT. Also, the card readers have the same problem. We now have to ty up our parallel port for the card reader, when the USB goes unused.

Well I can understand your frustration with the USB situation. USB is currently supported in NT but every vendor I've talked to doesn't want to get involved with the driver. Obviously Win98 drivers won't work so the only solution is parallel for now. I was messing with Win2000 release 1 and the USB is completely plug 'n play but there are again no drivers. Arghh! All I can say is we're all in the same boat and forget about NT and USB for now. By the way, I did some testing and the parallel readers are really no slower, the flash cards themselves seem to be the limitation.
