boob tube disconnect: tonite's "Cosby" show

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Griffin gives everyone a taste of a Y2K disaster
when he sends the neighborhood into a blackout
while fiddling with a generator.

I don't watch much TV, so for all that I know, Y2K is getting a lot of (humorous?) mention on the shows these days. But I find the idea that John Q. Public can watch stuff like this, yet be convinced that Y2K is of no real concern (other than maybe some idiot neighbor who is dangerous with a generator), to be the ultimate in Y2K disconnect. Certainly, a year ago I doubt that the plot for this episode of Cosby would even be understandable, much less funny, by most.

Like I said, I don't personally watch that much TV, but was interested to get a perspective as to whether this is typical or not as to what other people are noticing in the way of Y2K being part of the mainstream talk (but not the "walk"). And, I will defintely be watching tonight's Cosby (CBS, 7pm/CST).

72 days.

Perhaps you should get a dictionary and look up the word "comedy."

Where are the Three Stooges when you need them?

BTW DUH, I don't think Cosby can carry this storyline in a comedic sense. It's more like Keystone Cop fare.
