OT? Heard on Seattle Radio"Vanishing supplies of Flu Vaccine"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Heard on Radio this eve that... Don't be surprised if you cannot get a flu shot from your health provider or other vaccine administrator, it seems the manufacturers are having problems "getting the vaccine out the door" No further explanation of what that meant was provided by the commentator!

Got my flu shot 3 weeks ago; didn't seem to be a problem

Has anyone had a flu shot yet? For some reason, I'm procrastinating. The last time I had this feeling was the year LBJ urged everyone to get one-and you know what happened...awwww...maybe it's nothing....

In this weeks sale flyer from krogers, they were offering them for $10.00.I found this to be rather odd--coming from a grocery store

my husband works for a company that makes the vaccine..I also use to work there and made the vaccine.. The flu arrived much ealier than anticipated. I know when I worked on the vaccine, production started in January and went till June. But now the manufacture goes year round. But there are several manufactures of the vaccine. I have not heard of any problems on our company's end..

The CIA is probably making them check it for those deadly hybrid virus strains that they think the Arabs are bringing over. I wouldn't get any flu shots if I were you, or let your kids get them at school. I haven't had a flu in over 3 years, the key is to get plenty of excercise, preferably outdoors where you can get fresh air. Preferably on days when you don't see those contrails, and hopefully they won't start spreading Anthrax around yet.

I got my flu shot friday at the grocery store. Here (SE South Dakota) they go to all the grocery stores, discount stores, drug stores, schools, factories, wherever. They do this every year. The larger companies usually pay for their employees' shots. Cost=$8.00.

No apparent shortages around here.

Don,

I would think that the military would give flu shots every year. You figure the military is hoarding because they anticipate shortages next year?

I almost never get flus and I don't want the shots, so they can have mine.

When is the flu season anyway?

If this is happening in all major cities, I would think maybe DOD hoarding. If it is only happening in a few places, it must have something to do with the manufacturer.

If it's an Asian-type flu, wouldn't it be likely to hit the west coast first?

There was a thread on this last week on 10/13, the day after I got my flu shot. Have had them for at least a dozen years and wouldn't be without them...haven't had flu since taking the shot. Also, with Y2K medical disruptions and the chance for more disease-spreading, why would anyone NOT get one?

-- Elaine Seavey (Gods1sheep@aol.com), October 20, 1999.

Get ALL your immunizations up to date, if you can. Might be real unsanitary conditions, next year.

-- bw (home@puget.sound), October 20, 1999.

Haven't heard anything on this one. Got my flu shot ($8) at Costco last week. They were doing a land office business. They were also doing pneumonia shots ($20) and Tetnus (?) at the same time/place. This was the second weekend I saw them there. (Costco - Federal Way). My Dr.'s office did not yet have the vaccine available - didn't expect it til sometime this week.

-- Valkyrie (anon@please.xnet), October 20, 1999.

Elaine,

Did it ever occur to you that maybe you also wouldn't get a flu even if you didn't get a shot? Works for me. I find that if I get plenty of outdoor aerobic activity (bike riding) I never get sick.

Why would anyone not get one? With all the stuff we've been hearing about the Gulf War and military vaccinations, why take the chance. The government likes to use us as guinea pigs.

-- @ (@@@.@), October 20, 1999.

Because before I got flu shots, I invariably got the flu! And if I am going to let myself become paranoid enough to imagine that the government now has put something other than flu vaccine into my flu shot, then I would have a LOT worse problem than the flu!!!

Just be a good little sheep and do what the gubmint tells you, that's your prerogative. I'll see you on the other side.

I'll get my flu shot Friday, In one year 1917, the flu killed more people, in a much less populated country then have died in America from the whole AIDS epidemic. But don't worry, if enough people prepare, then the people who are scared of needles will still probably benefit from the herd immunity.
