Maine Coon Cats

Hi. I am interested in buying a maine coon kitten and am currently fact-gathering. I have a female orange tabby who is about 5 years old. Two questions:

1. Will my current five year old cat have a problem with a kitten? 2. I have allergies. Do maine coon cats shed a lot?

I hope this answer helps you. I don't know if your cat will have a problem with it since I don't know the personality of your cat. As for do maine coons shed? The answer is yes yes yes yes. I have a 2 year old M/N maine coon and during the summer months, he sheds like crazy. Fortunately, I work for a veterinary hospital that has a groooming shop, and we have a grooming technique called shed-x. It gets rid of 90% of the shedding hair. But as the cold season approaches, he doesn't shed at all. I hope this helped you.

I AM allergic to animals but have kept my 3 (2 MC's) cats and 3 dogs hair down to a minimum by having only acrylic area rugs in parts of the house and wood and linoleum in others. It is simple to run a dust mop around and vacuum a few times a week and deffinately has helped with allergy problems. Yes it is true that they shed a great deal, but it isn't the same as fly away fluffies (like persians). It is straight and heavy and simpler to vacuum up. Good Luck!
