greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I just bought a speedlite 380ex for rebel G. I want to know if there is a table exist for various bounce flash angle to use for different distance of subject. It would very helpful if I can find out what it is then to experience trial and error myself. Also what angle to use for baby photography.

It depends on how high the ceiling is. Higher ceilings require higher bounce angles. The normal procedure is the bounce the flash to a point on the ceiling about half the distance to the front of subject.

Since you have a 380EX you have to bounce against a wall if you hold the camera in the vertical position, or else get an off-shoe cord. But the same "half the distance" still works.
