Hello Paul, In NERO under the New Compilation screen, did you "checkmark" Create Video CD V2.0 (CDI Player) Compliant CD. By checking it, the integrety of the mpeg file is checked before you begin to burn the disk. The above can be found under the VideoCD tab in NEW COMPILATIONS. If it is not checked it will assume that the Mpeg is compliant and copy it anyway.

Check out this site for more info on CD-R's and DVD's. Some cheaper CD-R media may not work. http://www.dvdresource.com/dvdfaq/dvdfaq.shtml#2.4.3

I have the same problem with my Panasonic DVD-A350EB but, strangely it plays CD-RWs compiled in the same way. Try it, it might work with your Pioneer player. I also use Nero.

I am creating VCDs which play on a Pioneer DVD stand alone device perfectly, but when I tried them in other DVD devices , they weren´t able to play the VCDs at all. Can be that the regional settings on DVD players affects in any way the VCDs either?, Should I check the CD I options that you were mentioning before? Please, any help would be really welcome. Email me please. pd. I am using nero software. cheers

I got the same problem. the Nero-burnt VCD plays fine on the PC but in the standalone hitachi DVD it says 'NO Disc' !!!!

I have tried all the option's in nero to no avail. As for regions, i dont have a clue, no regional warning appears.

We need to consider 2 things. First, the media. There are 3 kinds - (1) pressed CD (pre-recorded, silver coloured ones), (2) CDR, and (3) CDRW. Secondly, the format. There are many, but here we're only interested in (a) VCDs and (b) DVDs. From these, we can get 6 combinations - 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b.

Computer CDROM drives reads all media. VCD players (common here in Malaysia, though I suspect not in the US and Europe) reads pressed CDs and CDR. DVD players reads pressed CDs and CDRW. I only vaguely remember the reason, something technical about the characteristics of the discs and drives. Some newer DVD players have a second reading head that can read CDR.
