Does iomega click pc card work directly in Sony Dsc D770

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I4m trying to find out if the new Iomega click works in my Sony dsc d770 camera with the pc card adaptor attached to it. I am more interested in this method, than buying the click drive which reads compact flash and smartmedia cards. Can you tell me if this is possible

Paul,

I own an iOmega Clik! PC Card Drive as well as the Clik! Digital Camera CF/SM Card transfer drive and as far as I know, it must still be used with a firmware driver provided by iOmega just as the Zip and Jaz drives do. I do not think it can be used in a digicam unless the digicam has the iOmega driver in its bios chip.

This is only an educated guess based on the fact that the Clik! PC Card Drive will not function in a laptop computer without having the iOmegaware software installed. Clik! drives are really great, but still must have drivers installed to work.

One viable alternative you may consider is the purchase of a CF to PC Card adaptor and either a high capacity CF Card or an IBM MicroDrive. This does not require any special driver to use in PCMCIA slots and CF capacities are rapidly approaching 256 mB and the IBM MicroDrives are already shipping at 170 mB and 340 mB! I also happen to own a CF-II formfactor MicroDrive 340 mB, which I use in my Canon PowerShot Pro70 digicam with excellent results.

I hope I have been of some help to you! : ) --------------///----------------
