We bought an Equator 1500 combination washer/drier. It is very efficient, and does a good job cleaning. We don't use the drier option much. It's not very reliable, though, and we'd try a different model next time.

Do you REALLY need one? My washer died 5 years ago & I have chosen not to replace it. I then sold the dryer which was RARELY used as I dry the laundry naturally on a line outdoors in good weather or clothes racks in the tub and in the shower stall in not so good weather. I wash most in the deep kitchen sink and larger items in a clean trash barrel. I use free laundromat coupons for blankets, furniture throws, etc. (It amounted to $24 worth in 1999.) I'm tired of buying stuff! There's no such thing as "durable goods"--they all break!

Thats great that you could live without a washer , but for large familys I don't think its a good option .It seems I spend too much time doing laundry now ! I'd also like to hear about the washers as I'm in the market for a new one.
