Digital cameras and Win3.1

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Can images from a digital camera be downloaded into Win3.1? All of the manufacturer's sofware that I have seen is for Win95 or later. Surely, there must be a way to do this. Thank you.

Easy, just go via a Windows 95 machine.

Sorry, Windows 3.1 became obsolescent four years ago, which is a very long time for computers, and a much longer time for digital cameras.

Will today's cameras work with operating systems in 2003, or will cameras new in 2003 work with Win95? I wouldn't count on it.

Here is another route for you to take. Get a Sony Mavica Camera. And then download a 16bit shareware version of Paintshop Pro.

I know you will get objections from people that Mavicas are crap and have a limited resolution. But if you are limited to Windows 3.1 then this might be what you will have to get.

Windows 3.1 is timed to quit working on Jan. 1, 2000 anyway, so why bother?
