What is the average price for a maine coon?

Price depends on whether the Maine Coon is pet quality or show quality. Also, whether the Maine Coon is a kitten or an adult. Kittens that are pet quality generally run between $400-$500 dollars in my area. I paid $450 for a kitten last March. Adult cats are less expensive -- even those that are show quality. You can buy a retired breeder or other older cat for $100-200 sometimes. By the way, these older Maine Coons make wonderful pets.

Hi April,

I live in Massachusetts and have found the average price in this area to be $300-$450. There are kittens advertised lower but they usually don't come with papers and lineage might be questionable. The breeder I got my MC kitten from has the parents on premises, shows his cats and showed me papers with the kittens lineage going back to great-grandparents. I paid $350. and knew I was getting a true Maine Coon. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for but it's best to deal with reputable breeders. It's a terrific breed and you're in for lots of laughing and loving. Good Luck! Lisa

The price on Long Island, NY is about $450 in pet shops for a kitten. I don't know about breeder prices.

Whatever the cost, it is well worth it. They are the most loving, adorable, entertaining creatures. Mine will sit on my lap, let me hug and kiss him for a long time, seems to have an endless appetite for affection, and understands the importance of giving it back to the "human". They don't just think of you as the one who opens the cat food cans. Most other breeds will not allow this kind of "display". They're just too aloof. And they have the most wonderful fur... it's like cashmere, and their tails are spectacular! And, of course, those eyes that can melt the coldest heart. It's almost impossible to discipline them when they give you "the look". Prepare to be enchanted.

You can't go wrong with a Coonie.

My husband and I just bought a four month old brown tabby with white kitten who is adorable. He's supposed to be show quality but we are still awaiting the papers. We paid $500 and he's worth every penny as he is such a doll. Buddy is playful, affectionate, mischievous and cute. I never knew what a great breed the Maine Coon was.
