I want to buy a digital camara, but don't have a clue how!?!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

As an aspiring black and white photographer, I am very interested in doing some work with a digital camara, yet, unfortunately, know nothing about it. Any suggestions as to what brand, type, etc? Average price? How do I know I'm getting a GOOD cam? I'm a college student on a budget (sound familiar??), but I don't want a crappy cam. Any advice? Thank you-Nikki Stratmann

You could do worse than to skim through the Imaging Resource Discussion. The parent site (click on 'Publisher') reviews digicams.

Try looking through the how-to features sections of PhotoTimes, http:// photimes.com. There is a lot of good advice for first-time digital camera buyers there.

Good luck!

I use digital cameras as an art teacher. You can read reviews of cameras at http://www.cnet.com I find this site to be very helpful. I even bought my nephew (age 10) a $90 digital camera to get him going on the computer and satisfy his interest in photography. It is called the "jamcam" and they market it to kids

Get the best one you can afford, whatever that might be.

I'm interested too. But only want to use it for notetaking for business and family...seems you can write on cd's a family album ...be a good idea, no?...of course you're in college...For fine art purposes and big enlargements use negatives....check out the fuji 2700 has 2.3 megs....I saw a leica that is really a fuji 1700 with leica lens for same as fuji 2700 but much less pixels...but it'd be cool to have the leica for web work only.....if you have the bucks is about 600 of them...
