What's wrong with this picture? The pollies think this was a GOOD news day...

Lets compare. Here's some of todays bad news:

* DOW drops over 230 points

* Pakistan's nuclear missiles are taken over in a military coup.

* A new Weiss study shows US firms are not ready for Y2K

* Infoliant says the rate of companies going backwards on remediation is increasing

* Russia is crowing about nuking us again

* A computer failure in Rome strands 200,000 commuters

* USA Today publishes energy giant Environ's possible doomsday scenario

* A wire report all but confirms that Paraguay is toast.

* A post by a Computer Professional pointing out the fallacy of the government claiming to have accomplished more than private industry

and so on.

And now here's todays good news:

* The same old happy face/no evidence stories from Gartner, MSNBC, and newspaper "journalists" (I use that term lightly, saying we're fine, check your VCR's, get a copy of your bank records, make sure you've got a can of tuna and a flashlight, yada yada yada

* Decker posts a glowing report on how the doomers seem to be mellowing out because its October 12 1999 and the world hasn't imploded. This is followed by accolades and copycat posts by Flint, CD and the other polly big brains and an overall increase in polly trolling by Genius, etc.

So is it me or are the pollies blowing hot air again?

Hey, "a", the last time they were frothing at the keyboard, gold shot up (and fattened Andy's pockets!). Maybe there is some kind of connection ... don't spoil a good thing, dude.

I was wondering the same thing. Where's the good news? A press release from Lear's saying "we don't really suck like was reported"?

"deJagers 'Promise Keepers' drops from 120 to 119", no, that's bad news,

"FDIC see big losses for banks", nope that can't be it...

Help me out here Flint, Ken, CD, Paul, wasn't there some good news today???

Are you asking for a list of everything that *didn't* go wrong?

Sorry, life is too short.

"a",

At least the Weiss Survey gave some F500 companies a "high" rating, right? But, wait...you know that non-compliant HAZMAT materials processor I've been writing about? The one that has decided that since "nothing's going to happen" they don't need to complete contingency plans? The parent company was one of those that received a "high" rating from Weiss. No, that can't be it...

This certainly was NOT one of the better news days...starting off with the coup in Pakistan. My first thought was: "I wonder who is in control of the nuclear weapons!" Great way to wake up (after the power came back on!).

In defense of the pollys, most of those bad news stories were from YESTERDAY.

Oh, I know the good news. My oil company (Fortune 1000) dropped about 25 non-compliant mission-critical systems off our list to be fixed in the last 10 days. Guess we were wrong all this time. Sorry.

It's beginning to look like a tidal wave is developing and about to collide with land. In that list you also forgot the Chenyna rebels trying to sabatoge the Russian nuclear arsenal, the Armeggedon Christians busted in Israel and sent back to Ireland, the Gold "get those shorters" which will raise prices, a Y2K radio show mysteriously shut down, and a report out by SF, CA that reveals almost no one prepares for an emergency.
