Beth Cramer - October 6, 1999

Welcome back. It was so good to see everybody again. Mary Ann began the evening by engaging our imaginations. She took us on a journey to Duluth. This journey involved a cap, gown, many happy faces of family and friends and possibly a diploma. Thanks for the goal and the encouragement Mary Ann. We discussed the facilitators page, as well as, the syllabus. We noticed the change from $50 to $70 for food. We discussed date adjustments and changes. The Governance meeting will change from October 22nd to November 5th. The Saturday meeting on October 16th has been changed to a half day from 8:30-11:30am. We will also be meeting on October 28th, Thursday, from 4:30-7:30pm. Kim agreed to facilitate on October 28th. Mary Ann brought three texts and the promise of a future journal. Those of you who could not attend make sure you get a copy of "Teaching and Learning through Multiple Intelligences", "The Poisonwood Bible", and one of four possible great books. Fast Company, our chosen journal, should arrive in the mail this month. There will be no alternative journal choice at this time. Barb McDonald spoke to us after dinner about the challenges and benefits of working with a group. She stated that everyone in the group should be a leader and not a follower. We covered non-functional and functional group and individual behavior. Barb said the group is responsible for one another. We finished by listening to group thesis presentations. Barb reminded us to bring the thesis samples to class next week so everyone has the opportunity to view them. Next week we should be ready for our first assignment and a special dinner. Our assignment for next week involves reading an article on motivation and coming prepared to share. We will be attending the dinner at Aquinas Hall for Beth Prettyman. Dinner will be covered, but the cohort individuals can give additional funds to show support for the Prettyman family.
