Using the logic of Pro-695...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Here's the problem: the government is a tax-sucking behemoth

Here's the solution: pass an initiative that will elliminate the government

Why? Human Beings are (by nature) peaceable creatures. We can get along WITHOUT an over-taxing, interferring government.

Therefore... Any cuts in funding to "vital" government services (Police, Fire, etc.) can be easily made up for by the general good will of peaceable Washingtonians... well, mabye just western washingtontians

After all... History has taught us that an absolute democracy is always more stable than a representative republic.

Careful! The Liberatarians behind I-695 would probably have no trouble taking you up on an "every-man-for-himself" society. Those of them who can read will usually have Ayn Rand as their demi-god.

wildbill--this is a textbook example of a strawman argument. You create an absurd argument you consider representative of your opponent's position. You then break down the weakened argument of your own creation.

colt45. . .lemme guess, the 40 oz???

I dont think I broke down the argument... Why dont you give me a hand with that, smart guy.

You show me whats wrong with the argument, and I'll show you what's wrong with I-695.

40 oz--"After all... History has taught us that an absolute democracy is always more stable than a representative republic."

Yawn.

This final remark would be your *pathetic* attempt at showing why part II of I-695 is a problem.

Deranged William-

Welcome back. You're making about as much sense as ever.

Concerned Washington peanut.. AYn Was a really nice lady..

Of course I'm sure you believe that Mao and Che were really nice ladies too....

You'd have to read my other posts to determine wether or not I thought Moa & Che were "nice ladies" or not. Fact of the matter is, however "nice" Ayn may have been in interpersonal communication, she was as mad as a loon. I would rank her right up there with the likes of L Ron Hubbard and Lindon Larouche when it comes time to rank guiding phylosophies. Ayn Rands ideas are based on her own belief in the supieriority of her own intellect, her refusal to accept critisism, constructive or otherwise, and her desire to rationalize her own personal ambition. In short, Ayn Rand made a wonderful Fascist.
