Tourney 2 - Time to decide on DIP Settings

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I need to figure out the DIP settings issue before too long so I'm prepared to establish DIP settings for the individual games when they are decided on. Therefore, I need your opinion on the DIP settings.

I think it's a REALLY good idea to do this: Look for TG Settings, hope we can find them, and if we can't, instead of doing the default settings, we'll use the hardest settings(except with lives, we'll use default or 3 lives, whichever is lower, if the DIP settings doesn't allow 3 lives or less, then we'll use the lowest one). If we do that, then there should be a near 100 %, or 100 % chance that TG recognizes the scores.

We'll use the normal voting rules for this issue. I await your opinions...

Thanks for reading :)

I personally would prefer using just default settings. Unless the game is way too easy or way too hard on default settings, then that should be what is used. My feeling is that if a game is set to a difficulty that is quite high, then you can quickly lose interest in it (unless you are very good at it, and let's face it, no-one is good at every single game there is - except maybe BBH ;).

My vote is for doing it this way, but it'd be a good idea for you & Pat to test the game out with the hardest settings first to make sure it's still playable.

In other words, a par 5 548 yard dogleg with two sandtraps for an 18th hole is good, a par 3 848 yard double island where two drives are made over large bodies of water and the "green" is a cup dangling from a hot air balloon 50 feet above the ocean is not :)

Woohoo! Make it harder! HARDER!

Well, OK, maybe not. :) I'm all for hardest settings unless they're somehow ridiculous as mentioned above. I do like the hard games, but not if it gets to the point that any sense of accomplishment gained by doing something correctly is squashed by the sheer amounts of repetition you have to go through to learn a level/pattern.

But of course, that's a subjective thing. And probably subject to ~more~ votes. ;)

I'll agree on hardest unless the game is too hard to be enjoyable, then drop down to TG settings if possible, then drop to a more reasonable settings but no less than default of course.
