Atlanta's MARTA rail system thinking ahead

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Today MARTA (Atlanta's bus and light rail system) announced that it was not yet Y2K compliant, but expected to be so by the end of the year.

Just to be on the safe side, however, MARTA announced that it would shut down all bus and rail movement at 11:55 PM on December 31st, and restart at 12:10 AM on January 1st.

Yikes! Make that 11:55 PM...

I heard that half of Asia will be using this Y2K 'fix' too. What are these people? Imbeciles? No, that is being too generous. As if systems will suddenly work when 'rebooted'!

Reminds me of where I used to work - the 3 'R's:

Just before I left they had discovered a new trick in the office which often seemed to work when reloading Windows hadn't - remove the cover from the PC and let it run that way.

Technology. You gotta love it.
