Can anyone tell me what type/types of sewing machines are used for repairing, maintaining and manufacturing chutes and gear.

All types of industrial machines are used by smokejumpers for different purposes. For example, bar tacking machines are used for reinforcing work, machines with two needles are used where appropriate and sergers are used as well. Light-weight darning machines are frequently used in repairs to the light material used in parachute fabric. Some brand names include Singer and, frequently, Japanese brands like Juki.
