Mac: How to extract audio from .DAT?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I read that .DAT files are mulitplexed and also need a utility called VCD cutter. But I don't think VCD cutter is available for the Mac. Is anyone else using a Mac and has successfully extracted audio from a .DAT file? If so, I would like to know which utility you used and how you have done it. Thanks a bunch.

You can do it only by undoing the multiplexing. The only program for a Mac that I have seen capable of doing this is VCDMaker from Query Software. It splits the streams into .mpa (audio) and .mpv (video). By the way, it also makes great, reliable VCD's that play correctly on a variety of DVD players.
